The 2nd Annual Go Red for Women in New Ulm was held Thursday, Feb. 4 at Turner Hall. Approximately 275 women came together to hear from several speakers about heart-healthy lifestyles while they enjoyed a delicious heart-healthy meal. Attendees also had the chance to bid on silent auction items at the “Red Boutique.” Heart of New Ulm (HONU) participant Leah Peck shared her personal story of how she changed her lifestyle in an effort to lead a life free of heart disease. Jackie Boucher from the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation shared a HONU update and findings from the 2009 heart-health screenings. The keynote speaker was fitness expert Chris Freytag - a writer for prevention magazine; host of “Motivation Monday” on KARE 11 TV; and producer of several fitness videos. Freytag motivated the crowd with her “Eat Healthy, Move More, Work Better” presentation. The women attending the event left armed with knowledge, motivation and enthusiasm for spreading the heart-healthy message to family and friends.
