Week 5
 Rewarding Yourself

The importance of rewards
What you're doing is challenging: staying active, setting time aside for yourself to manage stress, and eating healthy during the holiday season. That's why it's important to reward yourself when you achieve the SMART goals you set at the beginning of the program.

When you reward yourself for accomplishing your goals, you gain the incentive you need to stay motivated to continue setting and achieving your goals. You deserve a reward that is appropriate and timely after all your hard work. Make your rewards fit with your goals and use them as motivation for your healthy behaviors.

Ideas for rewards include: getting a massage, buying yourself a new pair of exercise shoes, buying your favorite magazine, watching your favorite television show or going to a movie.

Let's make a deal!
Ask those around you to contribute to your rewards. Create a competition or a pact with a friend.

Use your tracking calendar as a visual motivation. Keep it someplace that you and others see every day, to stay accountable.
Keep in mind that food is never a reward. If you use food as a reward, it will make you desire food for reasons other than hunger.
As you create appropriate and timely rewards, know that you will also experience the reward of health, so keep up the good work!
